Holidays = Crazy Woman
This year has been all about spinning for me. As a result, I've neglected my knitting most shamefully. In fact, I had only planned to knit one holiday gift—the ankle socks my mom requested long ago. So I dutifully spun up the yarn and knit the socks.
But then something happened inside me last week. A little voice said, "You're a knitter! You must knit more gifts." And like a fool, I decided to heed that voice. Does this happen to the rest of you around the holidays? Because now I'm wondering why I do this to myself year in and year out. When I posed that question to the Professor, he just looked at me gravely. I think he was implying that no sane woman would cause herself so much stress.
Anyway, since time was limited, I decided to see how many hats I could crank out in a week. The answer for me on this particular week was four. (And during that week, I did not spin at all. No. Spinning. At. All.)
Yarn: my own handspun, 70% superwash merino 30% alpaca, "Stormy Weather"
Yarn: Knit Picks Swish worsted, Wisteria (left) and Clematis Heather (right)
Yarn: Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride superwash, gray heather
And now I will observe a moment of silence in gratitude to Jared Flood's incredible hat mojo.

Its a very purple Christmas. Everything looks great!
You knit like the wind, Micki! All lovely projects, of course, esp. in those delightful cool colors. Was Habitat fun to knit? I'm thinking about knitting one up.
Now that's production!! It's also a lot of cables.
Love 'em all, but kinda partial to the blue and brown, just because. :-)
Absolutely stunning knits! Yeah, I spent most of the week making holiday candy. My husband said that I could buy marshmallows for 99cents a bag instead of making it. I talk myself into knitting holiday gifts right at the end also. I think we all have to be a little bit crazy to be knitters so don't worry. You are in good company.
All very nice, but that Habitat is just gorgeous! Searching for pattern now. BTW, the caramels are beyond wonderful. Thank you.
I'm feeling the purple love here! Very nice! (Jared Flood is a genius with the hats!)
I think being a knitter causes brain cells to explode or something around the holidays. This year, I not only have the little Christmas elf voice going. I have a baby gift gremlin screaming at me too. "Knit! Knit! Knit!" Before next Thursday, I need to finish my sister-in-law's Aibhlinn and a pair of mittens for my niece. I'm counting on that thousand mile drive North to save my sorry, over-ambitious butt!
So... Have you decided what you're knitting or spinning for yourself after the holidays?
Wow, you are superwoman! they are all gorgeous!
Great job on the hats! I am the same way... I'm almost done with the xmas knitting and I think to myself, but I still have like a week... I must knit more gifts for people!!
And they say knitting is relaxing...
Nicely done!
I do it every year. Swear off holiday knitting...then knit like crazy. The Kollhaas did it to me this time--I finally knit one and it flew off my needles. It was fun and looks cool. So my mind starts calculating how many can I crank out? We'll see...I still have 5 days! I'm mostly shopped and wrapped, then best of all I became snowed in today with 9 new inches of snow and more coming!
great socks am sure your mum will be thrilled...
The hats are great too I especially like your boyfriend hat...
But if you didn't spin you wouldn't have nice yarns to knit great gifts when the time arrives...
aren't hats great - so fast and functional!! they all look fantabulous! hope you have a merry christmas and happy new year!
i can't decide what i love most. they're all so delightful! your handspun really knits up beautifully. :)
I love the cabled hat, very handsome~
Love the socks - gorgeous color & nice stitch pattern. A great idea to use alternating rib. The hats looked great too. Happy New Year to you & family.
Stumbled on to your blog looking for info on carbonized bamboo needles which I am thinking of buying. I think your yarn and especially your attitude about hand work is inspiring. I am a beginning silversmith, and this fall, making my first piece using stones I cut ground and polished gave me such a rush I can relate to your thrill using YOUR yarn.
Surfed my way over to your blog and added it to my feeder for all of this spinning and knitting eye candy!! I'm just a beginner spinner so your work is really inspirational. Especially since you're using it for knitting projects too!!
